Google has provided a Twitter gadget for Google Desktop. Now you can have Twitter in Google Desktop side bar of your system (Windows, Mac, or Linux).

The problem with the gadget it has limited features and doesn’t support multiple account. Very minimal.

Termtter is a terminal based Twitter client written in Ruby language. You can post tweets, send direct messages, view followers, and more using shell commands! A geeky type of apps.. Also Termtter supports plugins to extend the functionality of the app.

Termtter can run in Linux and MacOS. For Windows users, there’s Quitter, a command line Twitter app.

Kzalek

Kzalek is a decent Adobe Air Twitter client for Arabic users. Adobe Air apps have problems in viewing Arabic fonts in Mac and Linux (as well Flash). Kzalek solves this issue and also provides right to left (RTL) view for Arabic tweets.

What makes Kzalek lovely is it’s simple minimal interface plus the features that are presented in small neat icons. Features like translating tweets to Arabic, expanding shortened URLs using Untiny service, and uploading images to TwitPic.

Kzalek still in beta supporting an Arabic interface only for now. It seems promising in future as global Twitter client in case the English interface is supported. Note that Spaz Adobe Air app also support Arabic encoding in tweets.

Hummingbird is an intelligent Twitter marketing tool. It targets and auto follows Twitter accounts based on keywords. It also provides stats and reports of your account, followers, and interested tweets.

As an Adobe Air app, Hummingbird supports Windows and Mac OSX (it should support Linux though it’s not written in Hummingbird website. Strange uh?). One cool feature of Hummingbird is that it supports 3rd party plugins and most of them are free. Unfortunately Hummingbird itself is not free and kinda expensive.. 197$! and there’s not trial version to test.. At least the screenshots shows some of the mentioned features.

Ada is a very simple minimal cute Adobe Air app for twitter. Ada doesn’t have many features but a good option for small computers and netbooks. Ada is open-sourced in github and any one can modify it.

Incoming! is a Mac application twitter search client where you can search for topics and filter the results based on the influence of twitter users, or by the tweet attitudes (positive or negative). You can also filter the results to only show the links or the images included in the result tweets (and not the full tweets).

The application is currently free, but the website says it will be for $14 and after which the prices will go up to $24! I find these prices are somewhat expensive to what the application can offer. Same as free twitter search but with some additional nice features… however it’s free until a later notice.

Mixero

Mixero is a smart Twitter client helps in controlling the flow and noise of information. Considered as a new generation of Twitter clients, Mixero is an Adobe Air app with full synchronization capabilities and an iPhone app also will be available soon.

I’ll describe the most important features of Mixero here and you can learn more from visiting Mixero site and watching their video.

Groups
Divide people you follow into groups and get tweets of each group separately. Groups are synchronized to any Mixero client you use.

Filters
When it’s difficult to keep tracing the current flow of tweets about one subject, use filters. Write a word in the filter bar and it will filter all current tweets to that word and any coming tweets too. You can use it as a search tool.

Channels
Make a channel that monitors all Twitter tweets about one subject/trend in real time! Channels can monitor all Twitter tweets or tweets from specified users. I created a channel for “twtbase” to keep updated about any twtbase related tweets!

Active List
Active list is the bar in the middle. It’s the place for your favorite/latest Twitter users, groups, or channels.

Context
A context is the configuration and the arrangement of your Mixero client. You can have for example two contexts, one for using Mixero at home and another for work.

UI, Url Shortening, Auto Completion and More
Mixero has very nice UI. I like most the Avatar Mode (see pic below). It lists your Active List avatars to right side of the screen. Mixero also provides choosing what shortening service you use for sharing links. And auto completes a twitter username while writing. There are more nice features I haven’t cover here.

Needs Some Enhancements? Suggestions?
Mixero overall is great! but I wish to see some more features in Mixero like:

Having multiple twitter accounts for one Mixero client (switching between twitter accounts)
More controlling on your tweets (e.g. send this tweet after an amount of time)
Blocking tweets of some users for an amount of time

Suggest any if you feel so. Mixero is currently in beta and registration is available through promocode invitations only. Follow Mixero twitter account and they will send you an invitation with few days. Or..
